Biscayne National Park BioBlitz

The US National Park Service and National Geographic are holding a BioBlitz in a different U.S national park each year leading up to the U.S. National Park Service Centennial in 2016. The Encyclopedia of Life is also a supporter and participant in these BioBlitz events.

This year's BioBlitz took place in Biscayne National Park, Florida, USA from April 30-May 1, 2010.

Biscyane BioBlitz Results

  • The species count at the end of the BioBlitz was over 800. This number will increase as the collected specimens are identified. See the breakdown of species observed on the Biscayne National Park Blog.

  • Scientist Dr. Randy Miller identified a new phylum of Tardigrade (commonly known as water bears) during the BioBlitz. Read about Dr. Miller on our “Who Will Be There” BioBlitz page.
