Share Images, Video and Sound on EOL

Add your species images, videos and sounds to EOL to help share your findings and to help build the EOL database. All contributions receive full attribution and must be licensed under Creative Commons Licenses or Public Domain.

Images

Share images of your local flora and fauna by uploading images to the EOL Flickr Photo Pool.  Images appear on EOL species pages as "unreviewed" and can be promoted to "trusted" once they are reviewed. See below for resources:

A downloadable PDF packet of information for uploading images to Flickr and tagging them to share with EOL. This is a good guide for educators and groups.

iNaturalist Taxonomic Tagging Tool

You can automatically add tags to your Flickr images for upload to EOL by linking your Flickr account to iNaturalist.org. For help, view this tutorial slideshow.

EOL options for sharing videos:

EOL Flickr Group: For videos less than 30 seconds

EOL Vimeo Group: Helpful for contributors with video longer than 30 seconds. Instructions for using Vimeo to add videos to EOL are in the group forum.

YouTube Channel: Instructions for sharing video through YouTube can be found here.

Sounds

You can use SoundCloud to share your recordings of species sounds with the world through the Encyclopedia of Life (EOL). Directions can be found here.

Writing Species Overviews: EOL Undergraduate Initiative

Students in college biology classes may be able to contribute to EOL species pages under close supervision. Professors serve as curators of student contributions as part of a class project.
