Getting Started

How to start participating on EOL

You’re just a few moments away from contributing to EOL!

Join EOL

First you’ll need to create an account on EOL. Anyone can browse EOL, but to participate on EOL you need to be logged in. Creating an account is free and easy.

Visit an EOL taxon page

Next, you’ll want to get familiar with the EOL taxon pages. All taxon pages on EOL use a standard template, so the page navigation is the same for microbes to ferns, sequoias to whales.

Participate

Here are some ways to participate:

Create a collection

EOL Collections give you the ability to gather together the pieces of EOL that are of greatest interest to you into a “virtual collection” you can name, annotate and share.

Learn how to create a collection.

Create or join a community

Communities are spaces on EOL for people who share a common interest in a particular aspect of living nature come together to ask questions and share their expertise.

Learn more about communities.

Share your images and videos:

Learn how to upload images and video to the EOL Flickr Group or the EOL Vimeo Group. Your images and videos will appear on the taxon page as "untrusted" content. It may be promoted to "trusted" status by a curator.
